The principal of Swedish manufacturer, Stephen Odell made these days an official announcement: „we'll invest in a commune business to produce from 2012 hybrid vehicles in Sweden that will can be charged in a normally plug-in but also with diesel oil".
That business that Odell talks involves also another part, that is Vattenfall. This company will deliver Volvo the batteries made for the cars propullsion. So, Volvo will be responsable with the cars production. I'd appreciate the Volvo reaction of the world's trend viewing this new technologies but I don't think they will be able to produce only hybrid vehicles. In the first way, the past is made too fast while people preffer the used cars centers, with cheaper cars using the classic petrol engines. In this case, the announcement is good for the marketing process that wants to have more and more clients for Volvo.
Anyway, if this will become reality, I dare to say this is very good for the entire world and the cars industry will change a lot because the other manufacturers are forced to do the same thing.
