My work is mainly based on the African style, tellings stories about the early time of Cuba. Indeed when the slaves used to come from Africa in order to work in the sugarcane fields, the only way for them to escape the hard reality of their work, was the music.

My name is Jorge Felix Hernandez, and I am a painter who lives in Cuba, Trinidad. My paintings are mainly based on the trans-African-Cuban cuban and abstract style as well.
All my paintings are done with 100% natural based colors, I am using what I find in the nature in order to create myself all the colors I need, mainly earth colors. Vegetables, threes, ground, ... are my main bases to create these fantastic colors. I am borned in Cuba in June 1969 (Near Trinidad), and when I was a kid, I had many painter friends which gave me the inspiration of the painting.
But as you know, life in Cuba is different that in the rest of the world so I had to choice a job and work for the country, so I studied to be a "Welder" in order to work for the industries of Cuba for more than 10 years. After that experience, I decided to quit this job and I started to paint as a professional in Trinidad. By the way, I never took any artistic lessons, I am an auto-didacte, and this is the way I do the thinks, my emotions are my inspiration.
My influences come from the roots of Cuba, mainly from the African people who came here at the early time of the island. I am facinated on how they could survive and still be happy during these very hard time. These people where not only great musicians but also they had great ideas how to build instruments with basicaly noting, only the nature and their soul to play with it. The colors I am using is about their spiritual life which was also braught back from Africa, it was the only way for them to stay alived.
